Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Southbrook Vineyards shows that unconventional and exaggerated features can be very striking. The winery’s trademark blue wall is unlike anything else in Niagara. The Landing Company thinks it works beautifully!

TLC Designer Will Klassen says “I loved it from the first time I saw it. The extension of the wall far beyond where it would normally end is an emotional draw for me. It’s as if the wall reaches out and accompanies you from the highway right into the heart of the winery.”

The entire design for this winery is incredibly innovative. Owners Marilyn and Bill Redelmeier worked closely with Diamond Schmitt Architects to create Canada’s first biodynamic winery. Southbrook has pursued certifications for both the vineyard and the winery – including LEED, biodynamic and organic certification. They are committed to environmental concerns as well as quality winemaking.

This architectural gem is one of Will’s favourites. What are yours? Look around you! Are there buildings that speak to you?
